Balasore: Police have arrested a woman brown sugar peddler, known as “Scooty Didi”, and seize huge amount of contraband in Odisha’s Balasore district.
According to sources, police came to know about the woman, Ruksana Biwi of Seikhbad under Jaleswar Municipality was present in her house. The police were on the lookout for her for some time but she managed to evade them.
On the instruction of Balasore SP, a 15-member police team, headed by IIC of Jaleswar police station Ranjan Kumar Sethi conducted a raid on Ruksana’s house. During the raid, they recovered a large amount of brown sugar and arrested her.
The police have also taken Ruksana’s parents to the police station for questioning.
The sources said Ruksana was managing the illegal drug trade run by her husband after the latter’s arrest by Kolkata Police 20 months back. She was procuring the brown sugar from one of her relatives in West Bengal and another smuggler in Rajpur village under Jaleswar police station.
Ruksana used to carry the brown sugar in her Scooty and sell those to the customers directly and other traders in Jaleswar and its neghbouring areas besides West Bengal. She was known as “Scooty Didi” in the crime world for using a Scooty to carry on the illegal trade, the sources said.
