Berhampur: A notorious criminal was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youths in Sheragada area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place when the deceased, identified as Anant Patnaik, was riding a bike and the youths in a car followed him.
They stopped their vehicle in front of Anant’s bike and dragged him. Anant was beaten up brutally. He suffered critical injuries and reportedly died on the spot due to heavy bleeding.
Two others accompanying Anant on the bike fled the scene to save their lives and informed the police.
A police team rushed to the site and recovered Anant’s body which was sent to the Sheragada Health Centre.
Police launched an investigation into the incident. Two persons have been detained and are being questioned.
It may be noted that Anant had been operating his criminal empire for the last around 15 years. Over 25 criminal cases registered against him were pending in various police stations across the district.
