Mumbai: Threat messages to celebrities, schools and airports have almost become the norm in recent months.
The latest target is Narendra Modi.
Mumbai Police said on Saturday they received a WhatsApp message threatening to kill the Indian Prime Minister.
The message, sent to the traffic police helpline, claimed involvement of two ISI agents in a plot to carry out a bomb blast targeting Modi, PTI reported quoting an official.
Police have traced the number to Ajmer in Rajasthan, and a team has already been sent there to apprehend the suspect.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of BNS.
As per initial inquiry, the sender of the threat message may be mentally unstable or under the influence of alcohol.
Mumbai Police’s traffic helpline received multiple hoax threat messages previously, but are taking the matter seriously as it involves the Indian PM and given the nature of the threat.
Latest Threat To Salman Khan
Among the many threat messages received by traffic police in the last fortnight, 2 of them are against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
“If Salman Khan wants to stay alive, he should go to a temple (Bishnoi community temple in Rajasthan) and apologise to the community or pay Rs 5 crore. If he does not do the same, we will eliminate him. The Bishnoi gang is still active,” read Friday’s threat message.
It’s not the first time that Salman has been targeted by the Bishnoi gang, which has warned him previously also to apologise for allegedly killing a blackbuck.
“This does not appear to be too serious, but we cannot take any such threat lightly… We are also checking if the message was really linked to the Bishnoi gang or someone just sent it for fun,” said a senior police officer.
Security has been beefed up considerably for Salman following a series of threats to his life.
