Rourkela: A youth has been arrested for allegedly killing his former lover, chopping her body into pieces and dumping those in the Brahmani river in Odisha’s Rourkela.
With the help of ODRAF team, police on Wednesday recovered her headless torso from Balughata Near Second Brahmani bridge, legs and hands from Gadiatola and head from a swampy bush near Tarkera pump house.
The gruesome incident, which is a grim reminder of the Shraddha Walkar’s murder in Delhi, came to light after the accused, Kunu Kisan, confessed to the crime before Sundargarh Police during questioning.
A resident of Lephripada, Kisan was released on interim bail from jail, where he was lodged since 2023 on rape charges, in January. He abducted the young woman, who was staying at her aunt’s place in Jharsuguda and working at a beauty parlour at Beheramal, on December 7.
Following which, her family members lodged a complaint with Jharsuguda Police, which detained Kisan under suspicion two days back. Following repeated questioning, he confessed to killing her and chopping her up into six pieces.
Speaking to the media, DIG of Police (Western Range) Brijesh Kumar Rai said that the accused took her to some lonely place under Lathikata police limits in Sundargarh, committed the ghastly crime and then disposed of the body parts.
It is being suspected that accused took the extreme step after he failed to convince or pressurise the victim to get relief in the POCSO case, he said.
The Back Story
The young woman, a resident of Dharuadehi area, got into a relationship with Kisan while perusing her study from her maternal uncle’s house at Lephripada in 2018.
She later became pregnant and he convinced her for pregnancy termination. However, she became serious after the abortion and had to be admitted to Sundargarh Medical College and Hospital. Her mother then lodged a complaint with police, accusing Kisan of raping her daughter.
Since the young woman was a minor in 2023, a case under Sections 376(2n)/506 IPC/6 POSCO Act was registered against him on August 26, 2023, at Dharuadihi police station and he was subsequently arrested.
A NBW was later issued against Kisan for non-appearance in the court.
