Hyderabad: An attempt to murder charge was added to the case filed against veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu over his alleged attack on a video journalist here, police said on Thursday, reported PTI.
A case under Section 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or substances) of the BNSS was earlier registered against the actor at Pahadishareef police station following by the complaint by the 35-year-old journalist.
“Based on the detailed statement of the journalist, the section (in the case) has been altered to section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNSS,” a police official said.
The journalist stated in his complaint that when he visited Babu’s Jalpally residence on December 10 to report on the ongoing dispute between the actor and his son Manoj, Babu aggressively confronted him and other journalists.
Babu allegedly grabbed the microphone, used “abusive and foul language,” and “attacked” him with it, causing a head injury, the complainant said.
A former Rajya Sabha member, Babu and his sons Vishnu and Manoj were recently served notices to appear before Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu in connection with registration of a case following family disputes.
Babu and Vishnu approached Telangana High Court challenging the notices issued to them, following which the court granted them exemption from appearance till December 24.
Manoj, who appeared before the police commissioner on Wednesday, recorded his statement and submitted a bond of Rs 1 lakh.
The commissioner suggested that family disputes should be resolved amicably rather than turning into law and order issues.
Differences in Babu’s family became public on December 9 after he filed a police complaint, alleging that Manoj and his wife had “orchestrated” a plan to take possession of his Jalpally house through intimidation and force.
Manoj said that his fight was not for a “share of the property” but for “self-respect and the safety of his wife and children.”
