Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday said that Odisha aspires to join the elite club of five states with a 1.5 trillion dollar economy in the country by 2047, when India will celebrate its centenary year of Independence.

“Odisha aspires to be a part of this growth journey and propel ourselves to be among the top five economies in the country. We hope to achieve this goal when the country celebrates its 100th year of Independence in 2047,” he said while addressing the joint business session between MEA and Odisha organised as part of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention.

The CM presented the state’s visionary roadmap of Samriddha Odisha 2036, leading to Viksit Bharat 2047. He elaborated on how Odisha can act as a fulcrum for Purvodaya Vision, which seeks to drive the eastern India’s emergence as an industrial and economic powerhouse. He also highlighted Odisha’s strategic focus on industrialisation, its commitment to inclusive growth, and its ambition to be a global leader in key sectors such as mining, metals, chemicals, tourism, and renewable energy.

Calling upon the Odia diaspora and global investors, Majhi emphasised the collaborative role they could play in Odisha’s transformative journey. He also invited all the delegates to Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 to be held on January 28-29 in Bhubaneswar.

He further stated that Odisha wants to emerge as the favourite destination of FDI in India. To realise this goal, he said, the foundation has to be strong and should be laid early, which the state is doing with Utkarsh Odisha.

Earlier in the day during the inauguration of Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the CM had mentioned about top business leaders like Gopichand Hinduja and L N Mittal, CEOs like Indira Nooyi, Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella, scientists like Venkat Ramakrishnan, fashion designers like Bibhu Mohapatra, who have won laurels for India.

The joint business session commenced with a welcome address by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, followed by a promotional video, ‘Transforming Odisha – Opportunities Unlocked’. Thereafter, the Principal Secretary of the Industries Department Hemant Sharma outlined Odisha’s investment potential across key sectors, emphasising the state’s investor-friendly ecosystem.

Minister of Industries and Skill Development & Technical Education Sampad Chandra Swain detailed the state’s robust industrial infrastructure and its ambitious ‘Make in Odisha’ initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable industrial development. “We are blending our rich culture with modern innovation to achieve growth. For us ease of doing business is not just an idea, it is a way of life,” he said.

He mentioned about ‘Go Swift’ single window system, which ensures that all approvals are given smoothly and quickly. “Whether you are a big company or a new entrepreneur, we offer policies that ensure stability and growth. Our governance model is very simple. We have created a talent pool that meets global standards. Young dynamic workforce is disciplined, hardworking and ready to deliver,” he said, while assuring all support to investors in setting up their units in the state.
