New Delhi: Ola and Uber on Friday rejected the allegation of smartphone-based ‘differential pricing’.
The cab-hailing aggregators were on Thursday served notices by Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, to explain reports of charging different fares on the basis of the user’s phone model like Android and iPhone.
Dismissing the allegations, Ola and Uber said they were committed to resolving any “misunderstanding” regarding the issue.
Ola explained that it has a “homogenous pricing structure” for all customers.
“We do not differentiate based on the operating system of the user’s cellphone for identical rides. We have clarified the same to the CCPA today, and we will work with them to clear any misunderstanding in this regard,” Ola said in a statement.
Uber’s spokesperson told Reuters that the company does not set prices based on the rider’s phone manufacturer.
“We look forward to working with the CCPA to clear up any misunderstanding,” the spokesperson stated.
Apple and Google have yet not responded to Reuters’ requests to comment on the matter.
