Mumbai: Siddhivinayak temple, one of the most popular Hindu temples in Mumbai, has brought in a new dress code.

According to the notice issued by Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT), those visiting Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi will have to wear decent, body-covering clothes, preferably Indian attire, reported PTI.

The temple management has banned apparel like torn jeans and short skirts.

The SSGTT notice said beginning next week, the temple authorities would not allow devotees to wear short skirts or revealing clothes on its premises.

The decision follows several complaints from visitors who expressed concerns about certain attire that they felt was disrespectful in a place of worship.

“Devotees wearing trousers with cuts or torn fabric, short skirts, or clothing that exposes body parts will not be permitted inside the temple. After receiving repeated requests, the temple trust decided to implement the dress code to preserve the sanctity of the temple,” the order stated.

To prevent a controversy, the Trust said that the dress code is being introduced to ensure all devotees feel comfortable during their visit to the temple and to maintain decorum within the premises.
