59th Foundation Day: Nandankanan To Welcome Anaconda, Giraffe Soon
Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoological Park here celebrated its 59th Foundation Day with special programmes to cater to the huge footfall of visitors on Saturday.
Speaking to media, Chief Wildlife Warden Sandip Tripathy said that vulture conservation and breeding centre were inaugurated to mark the occasion. The zoo will soon receive an Anaconda and giraffe under animal exchange programme, he added.
A total of 22 meritorious staff of the zoo were also felicitated.
“The emphasis has been on cleanliness and efforts are being made to provide all facilities to the visitors for a hassle-free visit. Police personnel and a team of doctors have also been deployed for their safety. To avoid standing in a queue, the visitors can book tickets online,” said Tripathy.
A former employee of the zoo, Kamal Lochan Purohit, said Nandankanan had become more attractive with new species. “This zoo is like an open library. People coming here relax as well as gain knowledge,” he said.
School students too crowded the zoo to celebrate its foundation day.
Notably, the zoological park was dedicated to the public on December 29, 1960.
