Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing severe heatwave conditions, the mercury soared to 37°C in Odisha’s Jharsuguda by 11.30 am on Sunday.
Keonjhar recorded 36.4°C, followed by Sambalpur at 36.2°C, Rourkela at 35.4°C, Hirakud at 34.2°C
and Chandbali at 34.2°C.
SUNDAY’S FORECAST
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warning of severe heatwave for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Sonepur and Boudh districts.
Orange warning: Heatwave conditions may prevail at a few places in Angul, Balangir and Sundargarh.
Yellow warning: Heatwave conditions are also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Gajapati. Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh may experience warm night. Hot and humid weather is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
According to the weather agency, severe heatwave, heatwave, hot and humid & warm nights may continue in Odisha till March 19.

SOME RELIEF AFTER 3 DAYS
The state is likely to experience some relief from the scorching heat with the IMD predicting a fall in the day temperature by 2-4°C after three days amid light to moderate rain or thundershower.
On March 19, isolated thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40kmph is likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Similar weather conditions may prevail in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul and Sambalpur with wind speed reaching 40-50kmph.
HOTTEST IN COUNTRY
On Saturday, at least 13 places recorded maximum temperatures at or above 40°C. Boudh logged the highest temperature in the country at 42.5°C followed by Sambalpur at 42.2°C, which was 7.6°C above normal. The departure from normal temperature in Jharsuguda was 6.7°C as the industrial town recorded 41.8°C.
The mercury also soared past 41°C in Angul, Balangir, Sonepur and Titlagarh while Sundargarh , Dhenkanal , Rourkela , Bhawanipatna, Hirakud and Baripada recorded temperatures at or above 40°C.
Bhubaneswar recorded 38.6°C with humidity levels at 79 per cent, while nearby Cuttack experienced 37.8°C with humidity levels at 86 per cent.
