Bhubaneswar: With severe heatwave sweeping across Odisha, the maximum temperature soared past 43 degree Celsius in the state on Sunday.
The western Odisha town of Boudh became the hottest place in the state and also in India with a maximum temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius. Boudh was also the hottest place in the country on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the weather agency, seven places in the state recorded temperatures above 40°C on the day.
Boudh was closely followed by Jharsuguda which recorded 42°C, while Balangir recorded 41.7°C, Angul 41.1°C, Titlagarh 40.5°C, Sundergarh 40.3°C, and Bhabanipatna 40.2°C.
At least three places — Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna and Titlagarh—in the state recorded the maximum temperature between 40 degree C and 41 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature was 36.8 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar and 37 degree Celsius in Cuttack.
There will be no large change in the maximum temperature over the districts of Odisha during the next three days. Thereafter, the mercury is likely to fall by 2-4 degree Celsius, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said.
As per the IMD forecast, heatwave conditions will continue across Odisha till March 18.
The weather agency has issued severe heatwave warning for several districts in the state including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Kalahandi.
In view of the heatwave warning, the state government has advised people to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
