Bhubaneswar: With severe heatwave sweeping Odisha, the mercury soared past 43°C for the second consecutive day on Monday.
Boudh was hottest again at 43.5°C. The western Odisha town had recorded 42.5°C on Saturday and 43.6°C on Sunday, the highest in the country.
It is followed by Bargarh (42°C), Angul (40.7°C), Titilagarh (40.5°C) and Malkangiri (40.2°C). The day temperature hovered between 39°C and 40°C at nine places–Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Talcher, Bhawanipatna, Hirakud, Sundargarh and Khurda.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 36.7°C and 37°C respectively.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had sounded an orange warning of severe heatwave for Jharsuguda, and Boudh with a heatwave forecast for Balangir, Angul and Kalahandi. Yellow warning of heatwave was also issued for Sambalpur and Sundargarh. It had further warned of warm night conditions in Balangir and hot and humid weather at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Gajapati.
The state is likely to grapple with heatwave conditions for 2 more days, following which the maximum temperature is likely to fall by 3-5°C as the weather agency has predicted rain and thunderstorms in some parts of the state under the impact of ‘kalabaisakhi.’
