Jaipur: You have heard of various kidnapping cases for ransom, some ‘staged’ by young men and women to extract money from rich parents.
But an incident that took place recently in the Pink City will blow your mind.
A live-in couple abducted a four-year-old boy from Jaipur railway station last week as they were unable to conceive.
Police tracked down the couple after the kidnapping was captured on CCTV installed at the station, and returned the child to his parents.
The incident took place on March 14, when the toddler was waiting for a train with his mother at the busy station.
Sundar Kashyap and Jeevika (both 28), who have been living together for a year, lured Shivam when he, along with two siblings and mother, was preparing to board a train to Bihar’s Siwan, NDTV reported.
Having failed to find the four-year-old following a night-long search, Shivam’s parents — both daily-wage workers — filed a complaint with Government Railway Police (GRP) on March 15.
“Everything was caught on CCTV, which helped us track the accused,” GRP SHO Arun Chaudhary said.
After abducting the child, the couple took a bus to Mahuwa in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, according to police. Two days later, the couple was arrested from Mahuwa under BNS Section 137(2) for kidnapping.
The child was found safe and handed over to his parents.
On interrogation, the couple told police they had been planning to kidnap a child for the last eight months and spent hours doing recce at the railway station before finally ‘succeeding’ in their plan.
The accused woman, married to another man with whom she has two children, has been living with Kashyap, a labourer, in Jaipur for a year. They wanted to have a child, but Jeevika was not able to conceive with Kashyap, so they hatched the kidnapping plot.
