Bhubaneswar: A notorious criminal, Khirod Nayak, sustained a bullet injury in an encounter with police near Hanuman Batika under Angul Town Police limits late on Saturday.
According to sources, the encounter took place when a team of Chhendipada Police, along with Angul Town Police and a Special Squad, cornered Khirod near an orchard and he opened fired in a bid to flee the spot. Police retaliated, hitting him in his right leg. He was apprehended and then admitted to district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Police sources confirmed that multiple criminal cases pending against Khirod.
This comes three days after police apprehended notorious criminal Sushant Kumar Nayak, alias Jhamu (40), following an exchange of fire at Talabeda forest in Talcher. Two notorious criminals, Sonu Yadav and Manish Yadav, were also injured in a police encounter in Bhubaneswar’s Badagada area on April 3. Last month, another notorious criminal, Beyas Lakhua, sustained a bullet injury in an encounter with police in Rourkela city.
