New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 9 before winding up his three-day visit to Delhi.
According to sources, implementation of the 3 new criminal laws in Odisha will be taken up during the meeting.
Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively. These laws came into effect on July 1, 2024.
This meeting assumes significance since the BJP is deliberating on its next chief in Odisha and probable Cabinet expansion ahead of BJP national president J P Nadda’s visit to Odisha from April 10.
Delhi visit
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Majhi is scheduled to attend Odisha Investors’ Meet on Monday and hold one-on-one meetings with business leaders across sectors, pitching the state as a land of immense opportunity with investor-friendly policies, robust infrastructure and skilled human capital.
Odisha will also sign an MoU with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) for a mega dual feed cracker & downstream units at Paradip. IOCL is likely to set up a naphtha cracker project with an investment of more than Rs 61,000 crore. It is a part of the company’s investment proposal of around Rs 1 lakh crore that includes expansion of its Paradip refinery.
Besides IOCL, the state will also ink pacts with Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd (ISPRL) and Petronet LNG. “These MoUs will not only strengthen the current industrial ecosystem but will also attract significant investments that will create jobs and spur economic development in our state,” the CM said before leaving for Delhi on Sunday.
Majhi is also scheduled to tour the HCL Technologies campus in Noida and engage with its top leadership to explore avenues in the IT and ITeS sectors, it added.
