Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Thursday doubled the annual uniform allowance for its police force.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also announced an increase in ‘extra duty incentive’ for constables, havildars, and sepoys
The annual increase in uniform allowance is as follows:
From Rs 4,300 to Rs 8,600 for inspectors
From Rs 4,200 to Rs 8,400 For sub-inspectors and ASIs
From Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 for havildars, constables, and sepoys
From Rs 5,900 to Rs 11,800 for ex-Army personnel in the Special Striking Force
This is applicable to all Odisha Police personnel from the rank of constable up to Inspector, including Group D staff.
Similarly, the annual extra duty incentive for constables, sepoys, and personnel of equivalent ranks has been increased to Rs 25,000 and for Havildars and personnel of equivalent ranks to Rs 30,000 annually.
Following this increase in allowances and incentives, representatives of the Constable, Havildar, and Sepoy Association met the CM at Lok Seva Bhawan to express their gratitude.
Majhi directed the association representatives to contribute to improving the law and order situation in the state. He also advised all police personnel present to uphold the trust and expectations of the people of Odisha. He emphasised on prompt assistance to the helpless and immediate protection to the vulnerable
He further stated that all police stations should promptly register FIRs and conduct timely investigations. “Currently, around 16,000 posts in the state police force are vacant, and a decision has been made to create an additional 16,059 new posts. Once these posts are filled, the deployment of police personnel in proportion to the state’s population will significantly increase,” he aid
He also stressed that officers should visit other states to study their administrative practices to further enhance the efficiency of the police force.
Director General of Police Y B Khurania, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, and senior police officers were present.
