Bhubaneswar: The day temperature is likely to fall by 3-5°C during the next 24 hours with thunderstorm activity accompanied by hailstorm & heavy rains resuming in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

The weather agency has sounded orange and yellow warnings till May 1.

ORANGE WARNING

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm with heavy rainfall may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in these districts for 3 days.

April 27: Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput districts.

April 28: Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhargarh,Bhadrak, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur .

April 29: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.

The IMD has warned of damage to horticulture, banana trees and standing crops due to strong winds in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore,Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts.

There could also be damage to loose/unsecured and vulnerable structures, kutcha houses/walls and huts.

People have advised to keep a watch on weather and move to safer places during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning. Farmers have also been advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail.

YELLOW WARNING

Thunderstorm/ lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in these districts for 5 days.

April 27: Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri.

April 28: Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur,Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

April 29: Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh and Gajapati. These districts are also likely to experience heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.

April 30: Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal .

There is also a warning thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy rainfall at one or two places in Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh and Ganjam.

May 1: Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Deogarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri.

There is also a warning thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy rainfall at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Koraput districts.
