Jammu: Pakistan began targeting Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the early hours of Wednesday with heavy artillery shelling, reports claimed. This came hours after Indian forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror targets in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack.

“Indian Army responded very effectively to the ceasefire violations, where artillery guns were used by the Pakistan Army. Pakistan Army has suffered casualties in the strong Indian retaliation,” Defence sources told the ANI.

According to reports, Pakistani army resorted to heavy mortar shelling on forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri. The shelling was reported from Krishna Ghati, Shahpur and Mankote in Poonch, Laam, Manjakote and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri district.

“During the night of 06-07 May 2025, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including Artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K. Three innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling. Indian Army are responding in a proportionate manner,” the Indian Army said, as quoted by ANI.

Since the April 22 terror attack at Baisaran, Pakistan has repeatedly flouted the ceasefire along the LoC and the international border for at least 12 consecutive days.
But, it was reportedly the first instance of heavy shelling along the de-facto border in these two weeks on Wednesday.

Anti-aircraft firing was heard in the Valley with sirens blaring at the 15 Corps headquarters in Srinagar, reports claimed.

“First time heavy artillery shelling been used in Uri and Kupwara,” an official told NDTV. Meanwhile, visuals of heavy shelling are in circulation on social media. However, OdishaBytes couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of such visuals. One such post tagged with purported videos of shelling claimed that three houses had been gutted in mortar shelling by Pakistan Army in Tribhoni Sikh village and Tangdhar in Kashmir.

Pakistani troops violated the February 2021 ceasefire agreement around 15 times between January and early April 2025.

The extensive ceasefire violations were seen as a deliberate attempt by Pakistan to escalate tensions along the LoC.
