London: Imran Khan’s sons Sulaiman (28) and Kasim (26) have sought US President Donald Trump’s help in getting former Pakistani Prime Minister released from jail.
British citizens Sulaiman and Kasim opened up for the first time to make a public appeal after “exhausting” legal and other routes.
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran, Pakistan’s World Cup-winning captain and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who served as the country’s prime minister from August 2018 to April 2022, has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail since 2023 after being sentenced to three years in prison in a corruption case.
The 72-year-old Imran faces around 150 charges, all of which PTI says are politically motivated.
Imran’s sons from his first wife Jemima Goldsmith told social media influencer Mairo Nawfal that they would now seek assistance from towering figures across the globe to help their father walk free.
“We would love to speak to President Trump or try and figure out a way where he would be able to help out. Because at the end of the day, all we are trying to do is free our father, and ensure his basic human rights,” said Suleiman and Kasim, who live in London.
“In terms of a message to the Trump administration, we would call for any government that supports free speech and proper democracy to join the call for our father’s release, and especially the most powerful leader in the world,” the duo added.
They claimed that Imran is in a ‘death cell’.
“He’s in a death cell, no light, no lawyer, no doctor, but he refuses to break,” they said.
Pointing out that all the cases against him are “politically motivated”, the Khans said it has gone a bit quiet of late.
“We would love people to reach out to us if they have some influence or potential to help with this situation,” said Sulaiman, who added that they had sought their father’s permission to speak up on the issue publicly.
