New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised NDA leaders to maintain restraint in their public statements. This took place during a meeting between the PM and the chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of NDA-ruled states at New Delhi on Sunday.

The meeting focussed on Good Governance and strategies to highlight the good work done by the alliance at the Centre over the last one year.

So far as Operation Sindoor is concerned, Modi is said to have asked leaders to maintain the stance that no third party was involved in India’s decision to suspend military operations. This was done solely on the basis of a request from Pakistan and an undertaking given by that country that it would do nothing to escalate the situation, the leaders are to say.

“Avoid speaking anything, anywhere,” the PM is said to have told all leaders, including those of the BJP, emphasising on the need for disciplined communication at a time when the country is passing through a critical phase in its fight against terror.

Modi’s advisory comes at a time when BjP leaders from Madhya Pradesh and Haryana have come in for flak for remarks on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

A few days ago Vijay Shah, a BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh made an adverse remark against Col Sofiya Qureshi, the Indian Army officer who was part of the team briefing the media on the military operations against Pakistan. Shah has been hauled up by the Supreme Court for his remarks and is now facing a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Similarly, Ram Chander Jangra, BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana, has sparked off a furore by saying that the women whose husbands were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 should have fought back against the armed terrorists. Nearly all Opposition parties have latched on to this insensitive remark by the veteran politician.
