Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor and Chancellor of state universities, Hari Babu Kambhampati, on Monday sought a report on the self-immolation attempt by a female student of FM Autonomous College in Balasore.
Official sources said that the Governor spoke to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and sought detailed information about the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident that took place on July 12.
Kambhampati also asked the Higher Education Department to inform him about the steps taken by the authorities to address the situation.
During the discussion, the Minister informed the Governor that the state government has taken the matter seriously and all necessary measures have been initiated to ensure accountability in the case.
The Governor also spoke to the authorities of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and enquired about the victim’s health. Besides, he wished for the speedy recovery of the girl.
Notably, an Integrated B.Ed student of FM College allegedly attempted self-immolation by setting herself ablaze in front of the principal’s chamber on July 12 due to continuous harassment by a teacher. The victim sustained over 90 per cent burn injuries in the incident and is now battling for life at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
