Hyderabad: The skeletal remains accidentally discovered inside a house in Hyderabad on Monday was of a man suspected to have died of natural causes nearly 10 years ago, the police said a day later.
The skeleton was discovered by a youth who entered the house in search of a cricket ball that fell inside. The youth shot a video and shared it with the police. It showed a human skeleton lying face down with several utensils lying around.
The police began an investigation immediately and recovered an old Nokia phone and demonetised currency notes inside the house in Nampally. The police came to know that the house was owned by one Muneer Khan, who had 10 children. While nine of them left the house subsequently, his third son Ameer continued to stay there alone.
The police got the phone repaired and charged and found 84 missed calls from 2015 in the log.
“The man was around 50, single and possibly mentally disturbed. He has been dead for a few years now. Even the bones have started to crumble. He seems to have died in the kitchen. There are no signs of struggle or blood stains. We suspect that it was a natural death,” assistant commissioner of police Kishan Kumar said.
“He may have died in 2015. None of his siblings or friends seemed to have checked up on him,” the officer added.
The currency notes found under the pillow were pre-2016 when demonetisation took place in India, the police have ascertained. They also got Ameer’s younger brother Shadab – who used to collect rent from shops in the vicinity – to check the skeleton. He identified his brother from a finger ring and the shorts.
A CLUES team – a specialised unit focused on investigation of a crime scene and collection of evidence – visited the house though and collected samples for further examination. The human remains were transported to the mortuary for further examination.
