Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorm activity together with heavy rain till July 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bihar and adjoining east Uttar Pradesh persisted over the same region. It is likely to move west-north-westwards across southwest Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours.
The weather agency has issued yellow warning for different parts of the state till the morning of July 23 with prediction of thunderstorm, lightning, gusty wind and heavy rain. The intensity of rain is likely to increase from July 21.
In view of the weather forecast, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued advisory for the districts asking the authorities to remain prepared to face any eventuality. People have been advised to keep a watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning strikes.
In the next 24 hours, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
On July 17-18, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
On July 18-19, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
