Bhubaneswar: A youth was allegedly beaten to death by his friend in Bhubaneswar’s Bharatpur area on Thursday night after a heated altercation.
The deceased has been identified as Kailash Nayak, a resident of Buguda town in Ganjam district. He worked as a house painter.
According to sources, the youth and his friend had dinner and consumed alcohol last night. Soon, they got into an argument, which took a violent turn and the friend bludgeoned him to death using a stone in a fit of rage.
The incident took place at Somnath slum under Bharatpur police limits here.
“The youth and his mother were living in a rented house at Somnath Basti for the last one month. The deceased’ friend was also staying with them. Yesterday, the youth’s mother left home following an altercation between them over food. When she returned home this morning, she found her son lying in a pool of blood. Since the friend was nowhere to be found, she suspected his involvement in the murder,” ACP Tapas Chandra Pradhan told the media.
Since a stone was found at the spot, it is being suspected that it was used in the crime, he said, adding that the accused has been identified and the motive behind the murder is being ascertained.
