Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its protest against Odisha’s BJP government over FM College student Soumyashree Bisi’s suicide, BJD on Friday announced a state-wide protest where all Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) offices will be gheraoed on July 21.
The opposition party, which is seeking a judicial probe int the tragic incident, will gherao the RDC offices in Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Berhampur to press for the demand, BJD vice president Debi Prasad Mishra told reporters in Bhubaneswar.
“We will gherao RDC offices to demand justice for Soumyashree. A judicial probe is the only way to uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking incident,” he said.
The death of Soumyashree, who set herself ablaze in front of the office of the principal of FM College in Balasore on July 12 and died during treatment two days later at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, has sparked widespread outrage.
The protest is part of BJD’s ongoing agitation, which started on July 15 after the death of the 20-year-old BEd student was announced. BJD has vowed to intensify the agitation until justice is served to the student’s family.
