Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Odisha’s Sambalpur has convicted two retired officials of the Office of the Project Director, Watershed in Deogarh, in a corruption case.
The retired officials are Pabitra Mohan Naik, former Junior Engineer, and Suresh Chandra Satpathy, former Junior Soil Conservation Assistant. They were found guilty of misappropriating government funds by recording inflated measurements of water harvesting structure work.
The court sentenced each of them to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, a Vigilance press release said on Friday.
Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will initiate proceedings to stop the pension benefits of the two retired officials.
