Bhubaneswar: An elevated corridor will be built from OMP Square to Kandarpur in Odisha’s Cuttack city at an estimated cost of Rs 640 crore.
“The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready. The tendering process will begin in the next 3 months post approval from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. It will help reduce congestion in the city, allowing commuters to fly over to Paradip from OMP Square,” Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab to reporters on Sunday.
He further stated that the elevated corridor will be constructed along segments of National Highway 55 and will include key components like service roads, double-lane paved shoulders and grade separators to streamline vehicular movement.
Three day ago in a post on social media after meeting Gadkari, Bhartruhari wrote: “Met Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari ji today during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Lok Sabha and formally requested for early construction of an elevated road from OMP Square to Kandarpur via Chauliaganj and Nua Bazar to decongest traffic in Cuttack city. The Minister has assured to act within 3 months, bringing hope for smoother, safer, and faster connectivity for the people of Cuttack.”
Inn his letter to the Ministry, the MP underscored the urgent need for expediting the approval of the DRP, citing the project’s importance for the city amid persistent traffic congestion. “The elevated corridor and service read components will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and enhance urban mobility for daily commuters and transporters alike,” he wrote.
He further noted that Gadkari had announced the elevated corridor project during his visit to Odisha on April 17 this year. “I request you to Issue necessary directions to all concerned authorities to expedite the approval of the DPR, so that administrative sanction and execution of the project can proceed without further delay,” he added.
