New Delhi: The Pakistani government on Monday started renovation work on the ancestral homes of Bollywood legends Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Peshawar, with a budget of 70 million rupees.
Pakistan wants to turn the ancestral homes of these legends into heritage museums over the next two years to promote heritage tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said Director of Archaeology Dr Abdus Samad.
As per a PTI report, the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums has been entrusted with the project and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has already released funds for the “structural and aesthetic restoration of the historical residences.”
Both structures will be converted into museums, dedicated to the lives and careers of the legendary actors.
These houses were declared as a national heritage site on July 13, 2014, by then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif .
“With the support of the World Bank, these projects will revolutionise the tourism sector in the province. Our aim is to make Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s beautiful cultural landmarks a focal point for tourists worldwide,” the provincial government’s Advisor for Tourism Zahid Khan Shinwari said.
Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s ancestral homes, built in the early 20th century, are located in the historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar, Pakistan.
