Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for four districts of Odisha till around 6 pm on Saturday.
Moderate thunderstorms, rain and lightning with wind speed 30-40 kmph may occur at a few places in Balangir, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada in the next 3 hours.
The IMD, in its midday bulletin, said that a cyclonic circulation persists over northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal. It has also warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh till Sunday morning.
Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati during this period.
The yellow warning continues on August 3 when thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
Though there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue at a few places across the state during the next seven days, it added.
In its extended weather outlook for Odisha, the weather agency has forecast widespread to fairly widespread rain/thundershower till August 7. “There is a probability for the formation of an upper-air cyclonic circulation/low pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal/Bangladesh coasts during the week,” it further stated.
