Bhubaneswar: Police have seized the vehicle allegedly involved in a hit-and-run case in which a eight-year-old girl was killed and her mother was critically injured in Bhubaneswar on Saturday evening.
According to sources, the SUV was found abandoned at Kusumati under Jatni police limits, late last night. The vehicle reportedly belong to a resident of the area, who is absconding.
The fatal accident took place near a mall at Patrapada when Revati Raul of Phuleswari Basti along with two-year-old her son, and her eight-year-old daughter, Reshma, was crossing the road while returning home after celebrating Raksha Bandhan at a relative’s house. While the girl died at the spot, the mother was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar with critical injuries for treatment. The two-year-old managed to escape with minor injuries.
Eyewitnesses said two SUVs were allegedly racing each other at high speed, leading to the accident. Both vehicles fled without stopping to help the victims.
Meanwhile, people of Phuleswari Basti has blocked the national highway where the accident took place demanding justice for the victim and a foot overbridge at the spot to prevent such accidents.
