Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported another burn case in Puri district, where a woman sustained severe injuries while reportedly lighting a lamp during evening prayers at home on Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Archana Das (37).
According to sources, Archana was staying in a rented accommodation at Naveen Nivas near Jaypur Chhak in Pipili. Her husband ran a gym. Shopkeepers in the nighbourhood noticed the fire and rushed to her help. Her bother-in-law also arrived from the gym and doused the flames. She was then taken to Pipili hospital in an auto and later shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. She is said to have sustained 60% burns.
Meanwhile, Pipili police have reached the spot and begun an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
This comes almost a month after a 15-year-old girl died of 75% burns while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. While her mother lodged an FIR, claiming that she was abducted by three men and set on fire on Bhargavi riverbank under Balanga police limits in Puri district on July 19, hours after her death on August 3, the father of the victim came out with a video statement saying she took her own life due to mental stress.
