Bhubaneswar: Two more cases of alleged sexual harassment, involving minor girls, have been reported from Sambalpur and Cuttack districts of Odisha in the last 24 hours.
In Sambalpur, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five youths under Jamankira police limits on Sunday evening. The incident came to light after the victim’s family filed a police complaint, alleging that the youths dragged the girl, who had gone out for some work, to a secluded spot and allegedly took turns to rape her
Acting on the complaint, police formed a special team, which conducted raid at multiple locations and apprehended three suspects, including the main accused, by late night.
Sambalpur SP Mukesh Bhamoo told the media on Monday that a manhunt is underway to nab the remaining suspects.
Police sources informed that all accused are from the same village as the survivor and are aged 19 to 21. The condition of the survivor is said to be stable and her medical examination will be conducted on Monday.
In Cuttack, an auto driver was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl on National Highway-16 near the Shikharpur area of Cuttack city. The incident, which took place on August 8, came to the fore when her family lodged a complaint with police on Sunday.
According to the complaint, thee minor girl had travelled from Jagatpur to Badambadi for shopping with a friend. While returning, she reportedly felt nausea. When her friend stepped out to purchase a bottled water from a roadside shop, the auto driver allegedly attempted to molest her. When she resisted, the accused allegedly threatened to douse her with petrol and burn her alive.
Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo informed that a special team of Chauliaganj police has nabbed the accused and the vehicle has also been seized. “The team recovered the autorickshaw. Thereafter, the accused was also apprehended,” the DCP added
