Washington: It’s no secret that Donald Trump is eyeing the Nobel Peace Prize. He has some backers too, like Israel, Pakistan, Cambodia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, but neither Europe nor countries like Australia, Canada, India have supported his nomination yet.
In an effort to back his own claim and strengthen his chances, the US President on Monday made yet another big claim.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump said he was the one who ended “six wars in six months”.
Trump claimed that the destruction of Hamas was the only way to get the remaining Gaza hostages back home.
“We will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed!!! The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be. Remember, I was the one who negotiated and got hundreds of hostages freed and released into Israel (and America!). I was the one who ended 6 wars, in just 6 months,” Trump wrote.
“I was the one who OBLITERATED Iran’s Nuclear facilities. Play to WIN, or don’t play at all! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” the President added, referring to American strikes on Iran in the last week of June during Tehran’s 12-day conflict with Israel.
After returning to the White House in January for his second term as US President, Trump claimed he could bring about end to the wars in Gaza and Ukraine in 24 hours.
More than six months have passed, and Trump is still trying to end the wars. The Gaza talks are in limbo, while Trump is making every effort to persuade Russia and Ukraine to end deadly strikes at each other.
Trump’s many ‘successes’
Among the wars Trump claims to have stopped is the four-day conflict between India and Pakistan post Operation Sindoor in May. The US President has boasted more than 20 times that he brokered a ceasefire using trade as a bargaining tool. He went to the extent of saying that he prevented escalation of the conflict into a full-blown war which could have turned nuclear.
India has repeatedly and categorically contradicted Trump’s statements, saying that the DGMOs of two countries agreed to halt attacking each other after Pakistan reached out first.
Trump intervened in the Iran-Israel conflict by ordering US strikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities in June. It left Iran fuming, and the Middle East was on the brink of a full-fledged war. Following negotiations, Trump announced both Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire.
Recently, the US facilitated a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, ending the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which goes back to many decades. Trump had earlier pressured Thailand and Cambodia for a ceasefire agreement after the two southeast Asian nations engaged in deadly border clashes.
The White House also said that Trump ended conflicts between Serbia and Kosovo; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“President Trump is proving that nations across the globe can move beyond longstanding conflicts of the past toward a shared future of peace, prosperity, and success,” read a statement issued by the White House.
