Jajpur: Tension prevailed at the district headquarters hospital in Odisha’s Jajpur after the death of a patient as his family members alleged that he died after administration of wrong injection.
The deceased, identified as Bharat Das (30) of Bansakantha village under Dharmasala block, had been admitted to the hospital two days ago due to suspected poisoning.
Sources said he was recuperating well after treatment but suddenly had a seizure and died. While the exact cause of death is not established yet, family members said he died after receiving what they claimed was a wrong injection.
Bharat was reportedly rushed to the DHH on Sunday after his family suspected that he had consumed poison. After treatment, doctors said his condition was stable and he would be discharged on Monday. However, family members claimed his health condition worsened after a nurse allegedly administered an injection. Bharat started having seizures within minutes after receiving the shot and subsequently breathed his last.
Family members accused the hospital staff of having given Bharat a wrong injection leading to his sudden death.
Accusing the hospital of medical negligence, they demanded immediate action against those responsible. Angry relatives also staged a protest, demanding accountability and a detailed investigation into the death.
Official sources said the hospital authorities have ordered a probe to be conducted by a team including professors from SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Security was also beefed up in and around the hospital to prevent any untoward incident. Further details are awaited.
