Bhubaneswar: In a major narcotic haul, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized marijuana valued at over Rs four crore arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
A 35-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both stated to be residents of Punjab, have been detained for interrogation following the seizure.
As per sources, the seizure was made when the contraband was being smuggled from Bangkok to Bhubaneswar. It was intercepted by Customs officials during routine checks. Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI officials recovered the narcotics concealed in the luggage of the two passengers.
The two who had arrived on an international flight, have been detained in connection with the seizure. Both are currently being interrogated to ascertain the source of the consignment and the network involved in the smuggling operation.
Further investigation is underway to trace the wider links of the drug syndicate and identify potential collaborators both in India and abroad.
