Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has issued notices to OJEE Cell of Skill Development and Technical Education (SDTE) department and the director of medical education and training (DMET) over hike in the MBBS course fees in a private medical college in the state.
The candidates, seeking admission to Hi-Tech Group colleges in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela based on their OJEE-2025 ranks, contested the fee increase announced on August 16. The petitioners’ lawyers argued that the sudden hike had led to financial hardship and is unjustified, as students struggle to secure funds or loans.
A division bench of Justices Manash Ranjan Pathak and Mruganka Sekhar Sahoo heard the matter at length and directed that any fees paid under the revised structure will depend on the final outcome of the writ petitions. The matter has been listed for further hearing on August 26.
The new fees are Rs 11.5 lakh (up from Rs 6.5 lakh) for Bhubaneswar and Rs 8.54 lakh (up from Rs 5.5 lakh) for Rourkela.
