Balasore: Two fishermen suffocated to death in the storage chamber of a boat in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The incident took place at Balaramgudi fishing base near Chandipur on Saturday, PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
The two fishermen, who were in their early 30s, lost consciousness on entering the storage chamber of the mechanised boat to collect fish.
It’s likely that they fainted after inhaling formalin, which is used to keep stored fish fresh for a longer period.
Other fishermen rescued them and took the duo to the Balasore district hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Balaramgudi marine police station inspector in-charge Narendra Kumar Pal said a case has been registered and the bodies sent for post-mortem.
The exact cause of death will be ascertained after receiving the report, Pal said.
