New Delhi: The Noida dowry death case is the latest instance of crime and cruelty against women that has grab national attention.
The investigation is moving at a fast pace with police in Greater Noida arresting the mother-in-law of the victim, Nikki Bhati, on Sunday.
The victim’s husband and prime accused Vipin Bhati, who was shot in the leg while trying to escape custody earlier in the day, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
According to the DCP of Greater Noida, Dayawati, the mother-in-law, was nabbed near JIMS Hospital while she was reportedly going to see her injured son Vipin.
Besides the husband and mother-in-law, one more accused has been arrested in the case, police said.
Vipin, accused of setting his wife ablaze with his parents at their Greater Noida residence three days ago, claimed she did not kill Nikki.
‘No remorse’
“I have no remorse. I haven’t killed her… She died on her own,” Vipin said after being shot in the leg in a police encounter as he tried to snatch a pistol from an officer while being taken to recover a bottle of inflammable liquid he had allegedly purchased.
