Sundargarh: A trailer truck was swept away in floodwaters while crossing a bridge on Safei River near Jhantalbud village under Badagaon tehsil in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the river had swollen due to heavy rainfall triggered by low pressure. The incident captured on a mobile phone camera shows the truck getting submerged by the strong current.
Fire Services personnel have launched an operation to trace the driver, identified as Sujit Aind. The helper, Abinash Barala, was rescued by locals.
Meanwhile, flood caused by incessant rains under the influence of low pressure area has marooned over 100 villages in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts. Around 3,500 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in Bhograi, Baliapal and Jaleswar blocks of Balasore reeling under the flood caused by the overflowing Subarnarekha river.
On Monday, Subarnarekha was flowing at 10.75 metre, well above the danger mark of 10.36 metre.
Dhamnagar and Bhandaripokhari blocks of Bhadrak district also witnessed swirling water entering homes. Some parts of Jajpur district also witnessed submergence by floodwater.
