Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday declared the day after Nuakhai, also as a public holiday.
The agrarian festival falls on August 28 and it is already included in the state’s official holiday list. All government offices and magisterial courts across Odisha will now remain closed also on August 29, according to the official notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
“Every year, a holiday is declared for Nuakhai. However, the day after Nuakhai is also highly significant for the people of western Odisha. On this day, relatives and kin meet each other, exchange “Nuakhai Juhar” greetings, and participate in various cultural programmes. This day holds great importance for preserving familial, social, and cultural heritage. Keeping this in view, the CM has declared August 29 (Friday), the day after Nuakhai, as a holiday for all government offices and magisterial courts,” a CMO release said.
To compensate, the government has designated September 13 (second Saturday) as a working day for all offices.
