Mumbai: Television actress Priya Marathe, best known for her roles in popular shows like Pavitra Rishta and Kasamh Se, passed away on Saturday after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 38.
According to reports, the actress breathed her last at around 4 am at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai. Priya is survived by her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe. The couple had tied the knot in April 2012.
Priya, who began her acting career with Marathi serials such as Ya Sukhano Ya and Char Divas Sasuche, rose to fame with her role as Vidya Bali in the Hindi television show Kasamh Se. However, it was her portrayal of Varsha in Ekta Kapoor’s hit show Pavitra Rishta that earned her immense popularity among viewers. She was also seen in the negative role of Bhavani Rathod in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and had participated in the first season of Comedy Circus.
Industry colleagues expressed grief over the actress’s demise. Veteran actress Usha Nadkarni, who worked with Priya in Pavitra Rishta, said, “This is no age to go. She was a nice girl and always kept smiling. She had undergone surgery and even resumed work, but the cancer came back.”
Priya’s last television appearance was in 2022 on the Marathi game show Aata Hou De Dhingana. Fans and colleagues have been posting heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering her as a talented performer and a warm human being.
Her untimely demise has left the television industry in shock, with many recalling her versatility and dedication to her craft.
