Mumbai: Manoj Bajpayee, who is gearing up for the release of his comedy-thriller ‘Inspector Zende,’ called out modern comedy films and said they are just ‘forced slapsticks’, which he cannot do.
“Sadly, not many good comedies are written in our industry. Most of them are slapstick for the sake of it — making faces, twisting your body. I just can’t do that. We have lost the tradition of films like Angoor, Padosan or Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro… where the comedy just happens,” Manoj told The Hollywood Reporter India.
Directed and written by Chinmay Mandlekar, ‘Inspector Zende’ is based on real events and revolves around Manoj Bajpayee’s character, Mumbai cop Madhukar Zende, known for nabbing serial killer Charles Sobhraj, played by Jim Sarbh.
The official synopsis says, “When serial killer Carl Bhojraj escapes prison and resurfaces in Mumbai, the determined Inspector Zende steps up to nab the cunning fugitive once more.”
‘Inspector Zende’, due to premiere on Netflix on September 5, also stars Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak, Bhalchandra Kadam, Vaibhav Mangale, Harish Dudhade, Onkar Raut, Bharat Savale and Devaang Bagga.
