Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm activity and lightning is likely to lash several parts of Odisha for nearly a week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity with lightning may occur in Odisha during September 7 to 13. Intensity of rainfall has increased as the monsoon is active and there is upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining west central Bay of
Bengal off south Odisha & north Andhra Pradesh coasts

In next 24 hours, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Balangir. Yellow warning has been issued for these districts.

This apart, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

On Sept 8-9, yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface has been issued for the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.

On Sept 11-12, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Similarly, yellow warning was issued for the districts of Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak.

On Sept 12-13, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Rayagada, and Koraput.

Similarly, yellow warning was issued for the districts of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Ganjam
