Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has sent five rescue boats to flood-affected Punjab and is also planning to adopt villages through his Being Human foundation.
According to officials, three of the boats sent by Salman are already being used to rescue stranded residents, for distributing food supplies and to assist volunteers in reaching affected areas.
The other two boats have been officially handed over at the Ferozepur border, as per a report in India Today.
Punjab Tourism chairman Deepak Bali said the actor’s foundation is planning to adopt flood-hit villages near the border town of Husainiwala.
Addressing the situation during the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19 on Sunday, Salman said, “We are doing as much as we can. We have contributed to the relief fund. Even famous singers from Punjab are helping in every way they can, keeping their rivalries aside.”
According to the Department of Information and Public Relations, Punjab floods have claimed 51 lives so far. Heavy rainfall over the past week caused rivers to overflow, resulting in flooding of several districts.
Relief operations continue across the state, with stars from Bollywood and Punjabi film industry uniting to extend support.
