New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned two more former Indian cricketers, Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, along with actor Sonu Sood, for questioning in a money laundering investigation involving the alleged illegal betting platform 1xBet.
According to reports, Uthappa (39), who previously featured in the app’s promotional videos, has been asked to appear before the agency on September 22 to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Yuvraj (43) has been asked to appear at ED headquarters a day later, on September 23, and Sonu Sood (52) on September 24.
Several celebrities, including cricketers and film stars, have been summoned by the ED for endorsing the app, which is accused of money laundering, tax evasion, and rigging its algorithms.
The agency has already questioned former cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan in recent weeks as part of the probe. Dhawan was reportedly grilled for eight hours for his alleged links with the app through certain endorsements.
On Monday, the ED recorded the statement of former TMC MP and actor Mimi Chakraborty, while Bengali actor Ankush Hazra appeared before the probe agency on Tuesday. Urvashi Rautela, who is the Indian ambassador of 1xBet betting app, has skipped the Monday summon, the reports added.
