New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Apollo Tyres as the new jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team. The company has secured the rights till 2027.
The search for a new jersey sponsor began after Dream11 was shut down, following a government ban on online betting apps. Team India started its Asia Cup outing without a jersey sponsor.
Sources said that Apollo Tyres will pay Rs 4.5 crore per match to the BCCI, surpassing Dream11’s earlier contribution of Rs 4 crore, marking one of the most lucrative sponsorship agreements in Indian cricket in recent years.
The partnership is also set to provide the tyre manufacturer with significant global visibility, given India’s packed international cricket calendar. India is set to play nearly 130 matches till 2027.
TimesofIndia.com has reported that Canva and J K Tyre were the other two bidders. Birla Optus Paints were also keen to invest but did not wish to participate in a bidding process.
Apollo Tyres Ltd is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. Incorporated in 1972, the company’s first production unit was commissioned in Perambra in Kerala’s Thrissur.
Apollo Tyres now has five manufacturing units in India, one in the Netherlands and one in Hungary. Nearly 69% of the company’s revenue is generated from India and 26% from Europe.
