Mumbai/New Delhi: Enthusiasts queued up since midnight outside Apple stores in Mumbai and New Delhi to get their hands on the iPhone 17 series that went on sale in India from Friday.

Some unruly scenes were also witnessed, forcing security personnel to intervene. Some of the first buyers posted their achievements on social media, leading to questions from netizens on why they had to endure the ordeal for something that is not a limited edition product.

Many of those who queued up outside the Saket mall in southeast Delhi said they had reached there soon after midnight. Apple’s flagship BKC store witnessed heavy footfall as well, as well as unruly scenes.

A few persons standing in queue outside the BKC Jio Centre store in Mumbai exchanged blows before security personnel intervened and brought things under control. Many of those who waiting outside the stores in Mumbai and Delhi were from other parts of the country.

There were many people from Gujarat who had travelled to Mumbai, just to be among the first customers of the iPhone 17 series.

The base 256 GB variant of the phone starts at around Rs 82,900. Higher storage options of up to 512 GB goes up to Rs 1,02,900. The iPhone 17 Air starts at Rs 1,19,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro variant begins at Rs 1,34,000. The iPhone Pro Max starts at Rs 1,49,900.

EMI options have made these phones more accessible to people, particularly diehard iPhone fans.

“I come from Ahmedabad every time. I have been waiting since 5am,” a prospective buyer in Mumbai said.

The iPhone 17 series comes powered by Apple’s latest silicon chip and runs on iOS 26, designed to seamlessly support the company’s new suite of AI features branded as Apple Intelligence.

The devices will be available across Apple’s official stores in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune, as well as on the company’s official website. Customers can also purchase them from e-commerce platforms, quick commerce apps, and authorized Apple retailers.
