Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain and thunderstorms may lash several parts of Odisha over the next one week as a fresh low-pressure area is taking shape over the Bey of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fresh low-pressure area is likely to emerge into east-central & adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal off Myanmar- Bangladesh coasts around September 25. This system could intensify and trigger widespread rain in several parts of Odisha.
While showers and thunderstorm may occur in some districts till September 22, the intensity and coverage of rainfall is likely to increase significantly from September 23. The IMD has issued yellow warning for different districts for one week.
In next 24 hours, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
On Sept 21-22, yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh .
On Sept 22-23, yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
On Sept 23-24, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Yellow warning has been issued by the IMD.

On Sept 24-25, yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
