Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president has announced the launch of a statewide padyatra, ‘Gandhi Pathe Odisha’, beginning October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
“We will be beginning our statewide Padyatra Gandhi Pathe Odisha from Malkangiri on 2nd October. Through this 6,500 kms padyatra we will be covering all the 314 blocks of Odisha in next one year,” he posted on X.
The initiative has been envisioned as a mass outreach programme to engage with people throughout the state, focusing on social justice, livelihood, and democratic rights, while promoting Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals.
Since the BJP came to power in the state, the Congress, which once struggled to stay relevant in the state politics, has been taking an aggressive stance to position itself as the ‘real opposition’ under the leadership of the three-time MP and former Union minister.
Das had earlier said that BJP is afraid of Congress party’s growing support in Odisha. “They talk about double engine governance everywhere but can’t provide protection to women. We will soon replace BJP in Odisha and provide justice to women, farmers, unemployed youth and tribals,” he told the media while responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘loot tantra-vs-bachat utsav’ attack on Congress over GST.
