Heavy Rain May Resume In Odisha From Tomorrow With Cyclonic Circulation Brewing Over Bay

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain may resume in Odisha from Thursday with a cyclonic circulation brewing over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

According to the midday bulletin, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around October 10. However, it is yet to make any prediction on the strength and trajectory of the new weather system.

On October 6, thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal and Boudh.

The IMD has warned of heavy rain thereafter for three days.

October 9

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada districts.

Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal ,Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

October 10

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of Ganjam and Gajapati.

October 11

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur districts.

Light to moderate rain may continue at a few places across the state during this period.

Weather experts further stated that the fresh weather system may also delay withdrawal of monsoon this year. The southwest monsoon usually withdraws from the state between October 10 and 15.

Notably, Odisha has been witnessing heavy rainfall under the influence of about 15 low pressure areas, which have formed during the ongoing southwest monsoon season since June 1.
